Virologist Streeck calls for response Force for infectious diseases
The Bonn virologist Hendrik Streeck calls, in the light of the Corona-pandemic rapid intervention in infectious diseases at the national and international level. For example, the world health organization had to be strengthened, said Streeck in an Interview with the “Frankfurter Allgemeine Sunday newspaper”. In his opinion, there should be “an Emergency Response Team of the WHO”. “A unit that can contain infections.”
Also for Germany, he wants “a Force for infectious diseases.” This should be a Association, the national act, “not only at the level of countries”. Makes sense, he holds, such an Association “at the Robert Koch Institute in dock”. This should have its own response personnel and to the Technical assistance plant can use.

Hendrik Streeck: “I think the danger, to get me through children Covid-19 home, for the low”
In pandemic control in Germany, there had been time and again discussions about a Federal uniform approach. Individual countries going it alone, such as in the case of loosening of the protective measures, were repeatedly advised in the criticism.
In an Interview with the “FAS” said Streeck also, there have been errors in the first few months of the pandemic fight. “It is in the nature of things, to make mistakes, but the important thing is to learn from it,” says Streeck told the newspaper. You have initially taken very quickly a lot of different measures, and had not to wait the time, which of them looks like. But the Virus takes its time. Streeck: “as a result, you could not understand in hindsight, what was most effective.”
The virologist warned at the same time, before further and possibly even more dangerous pandemics in the future. “That can happen,” said Streeck. Also a well-known Virus can change and become aggressive, such as the Spanish flu of a hundred years ago. “Or the Aedes mosquito, is a result of climate change at home, and we get to do it with Dengue fever.”
